Pine Island clean-up

PINE ISLAND, Minn. (KTTC-DT)  -- Efforts are underway in Pine Island to clean up debris after flooding left many homes in complete shambles.

Many homeowners are now trying to clean up their flooded homes. Damaged carpeting and other materials can be hauled to three dumpster sites set up by city officials.

The high flood waters displaced 25 people the first night of the disaster and affected 75-100 homes total - most of which had sewage back-up due to the waste water treatment plant having to close.

Pine Island's Civil Defense Director, Lonnie Sather, says, "The river has receded back into its banks. We're starting a major clean-up mode. People are calling in and starting to request clean-up kits and assistance in helping clean their basements. Also retrieving sandbags that no longer need to be used."

Debris dumpsters are located in Pine Island at:

-5th Street

-1st Avenue NE near the Kwik Trip

-1st Avenue SE near Bach Estate Development
