Suspect confirmed in robbery

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC-DT) --  The Wabasha County Sheriff, Rodney Bartsh, is confirming David Paquin, 33, was the suspect who robbed the bank in Elgin on September 1.

Paquin was fatally shot on Monday by an Olmsted County Deputy after he fled a vehicle that was part of a traffic stop and authorities say Paquin attacked the deputy who fired the shot.

Deputies had been watching a residence in Rochester where they believed Paquin to be staying and the vehicle pulled over had left that residence.

Authorities say they have key evidence tying Paquin to the robbery. Bank notes have been found, one that was on the back of a vehicle registration traced to Paquin. Deputies found one note in his pocket. A note has been recovered that suggest Paquin was planning to rob again.

Details of what happened during the shooting that killed Paquin are not yet being released because an investigation by the bureau of criminal apprehension is ongoing.

Authorities say they're working to find out if Paquin had a driver helping him flee the scene after the robbery.
