National Barrow Show returns to Austin

AUSTIN, MN (KTTC-DT) -- The Mower County Fairgrounds are alive this week, even though it's well after fair season.

The National Barrow Show is back in Austin for its 64th year. It's often referred to as "The World Series of Swine Shows", and features many of the top foundation females and breeding boars in the country.

The show started Sunday and runs through this Wednesday. More than 900 pigs are registered. There are youth and adults presenting, and this is where you'll find some of the most elite swine in the country.

Mike Paul, with the National Swine Registry, says, "I mean, they put a lot of hours into training these hogs, working with them, feeding them, you know, the balanced diets and the correct exercise they give these animals to make a very competitive show animal."

You are invited to the event! Head on over to the Mower County Fairgrounds. All of the eight major swine breeds are there. In addition to Tuesday's events, breeding stock shows are set for Tuesday, with breeding sales on Wednesday.
