Mower County Jail opens

ROCHESTER, MINN. (KTTC) -- IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS, MOWER COUNTY HAS SPENT TWO-AND-A HALF MILLION DOLLARS TO MITCHELL COUNTY JAIL. BUT IT DOES NOT HAVE TO ANYMORE.

AFTER THREE YEARS OF PROJECT DEVELOPMENT, MOWER COUNTY JUSTICE CENTER IS OPEN. INSTEAD OF THE ORIGINAL 33, 128 JAIL BEDS FIT THE NEW SITE. THE FACILITY ALSO HAS A SWIMMING POOL, BASKETBALL COURTS, AND KITCHEN. IN LATE 2007, COUNTY COMMISSIONERS DECIDED THAT IT NEEDED ITS OWN JAIL IN ORDER TO BE MOST COST EFFICIENT. THE TOTAL COST FOR THE PROJECT IS JUST OVER $29 MILLION, 3-HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS.

THE JUSTICE CENTER IS GIVING TOURS UNTIL THE EVENING OF SEPTEMBER 13TH.
