Anti-litter campaign in Rochester

ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) -- The city of Rochester didn't like cigarette butts laying around, so it did something about it.

They started "A Litter Butt Better" anti-litter campaign and collected more than 35,000 cigarette butts this year.

21 volunteers collected butts from 10 sites in three passes between March 17 and July 31. The city also distributed 350 free pocket ashtrays, which are rubber containers for used cigarettes.

The group organizing the 2011 program will meet Sept. 21.
