New abuse charges for Ashton Larson

ALBERT LEA, Minn. (KTTC-DT) -- One of the two young women charged in an abuse case involving nursing home residents in Albert Lea is now facing additional charges.

The Freeborn County Attorney's Office filed seven additional charges against Ashton Larson.

The 20-year-old had been facing ten charges.

The new charges add to the original charges of assault, abuse of a vulnerable adult, and disorderly conduct by a caregiver.

Larson was among several nursing aides accused of mistreating residents at the Good Samaritan Society in 2008, by groping, poking, and taunting them.

While a date has not been set for Larson's trial, a hearing is set for September 15th.

Larson and Brianna Broitzman are the only two charged in the abuse.

Broitzman accepted a plea deal and is scheduled to be sentenced October 26th.

She could face up to 3 years in jail and/or $9,000 in fines.
