Winona school-board candidate drops out after arrest

WINONA, Minn. (AP) -- A candidate for Winona's public school board has dropped out of the race after she was arrested for domestic assault.

Thirty-eight-year-old Tirina Bryant Moynagh dropped out Thursday. She attributes the assault to mental-health issues, saying doctors are still working to determine the proper dosage for her medication.

Police Chief Paul Bostrack says officers responded Wednesday evening to a home where a man had scratches on his neck. The man said Moynagh pushed him, grabbed his neck and pulled his hair.

Moynagh tells the Winona Daily News she was defending herself.

She faces two misdemeanor counts. She was released on her own recognizance Thursday

Her name will still be on the Nov. 2 ballot because the deadline to withdraw from the race has passed.
