Family still wants answers after 2008 shooting

ROCHESTER (KTTC-DT)-- It's been exactly two years since 26-year-old Mario Campos was shot and killed by an Owatonna police officer. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says no charges have been filed against that officer, but his family is still looking for answers.

"We just, we just don't know why," says Campos' longtime girlfriend Kristine Blanck.

It was around 5p.m. on August 26th, 2008, Campos had just left work and stopped at John's Foods in Dodge Center but never made it home.

"We will never have closure so to speak," says Blanck.

According to the BCA, an Owatonna Police Officer was keeping an eye on a drug deal between and another undercover agent. But when the deal went south, Campos tried to flee, ramming his car into the officers' vehicle, moments later he was shot and killed.

"We still have our questions and they're still unanswered but answered questions are going to fix things," Blanck adds.

Family, friends and Campos' three young children all gathered at his home in Rochester Thursday, simply to remember the man they lost two years ago.

"He had so many people in his life and he would do anything for anybody," Blanck recalls.
