Alden residents still recovering from June tornado

ALDEN (KTTC-DT)-- More than two months since a tornado tore through Alden, the small southern Minnesota community is just beginning to clean up.

"It's been a little frustrating," says Dolores Steele who rode out the tornado with her husband Loren at their Alden farm.

Their house, was miraculously still standing after the EF-4tornado touched down, most of their farming equipment has been destroyed including a brand new corn dryer Loren had put in last year.

"What do you do, it takes about so long to get back to normal" Loren said Tuesday.

Other people, like John Marshall weren't quite as lucky. His family's house was destroyed as the twister barreled across Alden. Marshall, his mother and his father sat crouched beneath their basement stairs as that same twister ripped apart the home.

"I was about as low as you could get," Marshall recalls.

John's parents are still waiting on estimates to rebuild, so for now all they have to look at is a crumbling foundation filled with family memories that can't be replaced.

"Mowing the lawn, that's about all we got I guess," the 24-year-old said.
