Landscaping your way to sustainability

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Gardening is a popular pastime for many Rochester residents. For Mark Harrison, author of "Prefurbia", a smart garden can make a world of a difference.

Harrison is a leading expert on land planning issues to over 300 land developers. He was in Rochester to talk about making landscape smarter, sustainable, and sellable. According to Harrison, smart landscaping can change the neighborhood feel.

The concept is to save 25% street space and use it for architecture that will build a better lifestyle, such as a couple's sidewalk, larger patio, extra pond and even better views.

For many residents who enjoy being outside their home, this concept receives considerable thought. But many wish they had this knowledge before developing their landscapes.

Mark's goal is to reinventing the suburbs from disdainable to sustainable.
