ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC-DT) -- A Rochester man is lucky to be alive after a house fire threatened to take his life.

Flames were seen coming from the bedroom window around 3 a.m. Saturday on 7th Street Northwest.

Jeff Porter, 45, was home at the time and is wheelchair bound.

He suffered burns on both of his hands and both legs. Not only that but his power wheel chair was melted by the flames.

Porter was able to escape on his own and is being treated at St. Mary's Hospital.

That's not where the story ends. Firefighter's fought another fire at the same residence again around 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Hidden residual embers heated to the point of igniting a roof rafter. A passing Gold Cross Ambulance reported seeing the smoke coming from the roof.
