City Council votes on Villa Road solution

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC-DT) --  Emotions ran high at Monday's city council meeting as residents voiced their final opinions but the room remained quiet at the time of the vote.

The board voted 5-2 in support of adding a 10 foot wide pedestrian path along the existing road, as well as, installation of four speed tables - which are essentially elongated speed bumps.

Residents in both 55th Street Estates and North Ridge agree safety is a main concern. The two problems cited again and again are vehicles speeding excessively through Villa and Chateau roads and the safety of pedestrians on those roads.

Councilman Bruce Snyder found himself in a unique position as he represented both groups who were in opposition but felt this option addressed both concerns.

He says, "I felt at that point it was the most fair option to take."

Residents of 55th Street Estates will likely be paying about $1000 to cover half of the cost of the speed tables. A public hearing is set for August 16 to finalize those plans.
