Former Relay For Life chairperson, Sue Hruska, dies at age 52

ROCHESTER (KTTC-DT)-- This year's 17th annual Relay for Life will be missing a very special participant. Sue Hruska chaired the event two years ago, on Sunday she lost her battle with brain cancer. Hruska was married to Rochester City council member Ed Hruska.

"We can take the mouth sores, the nausea, the hair loss, just give us hope," Sue Hruska said at the Relay for Life back in 2008.

It was that hope that got Sue Hruska through life, after doctor's told the 48-year-old she had just a year and a half to live.

"I just got down on my knees and said 'ok this journey's brought me here, I need your help, give me whatever it takes to get through this'" she recalls.

Sue Hruska lost her battle with brain cancer on Sunday at age 52, with her husband Ed at her side.

"The person that you had for so long is no longer there and you remember all the great things and you cherish them," Ed says.

Even in her darkest hours, Sue made it her mission to try and help other people battling the disease...hoping one day there may be a cure.

"We know sue and she'd want us to carry and on and continue to do the good that she did for others," her husband says.
