Next week's bridge repairs will not affect traffic

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Vehicles with overweight loads are restricted from crossing the Highway 43 bridge in Winona until further notice; however, next week's bridge repairs will not impact traffic, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Crews will conduct repairs on a gusset plate on Tuesday, June 8, weather permitting. They will access the gusset plate from below the bridge, which will not impact traffic. There will be parking restrictions in effect under the bridge during the work. The repairs are expected to take one day.

Corrosion was found during a sight visit Thursday as part of the Winona Bridge Rehabilitation Study. Analysis showed this gusset plate's corroded condition warranted repairs.

Other bridge repairs are scheduled later this summer.

Trucks that weigh more than 40 tons will not be allowed to cross the bridge, including commercial vehicles and agricultural equipment.

The bridge's regularly-scheduled inspection will still take place at the end of June.

Mn/DOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
