Death of Winona State student remains a mystery

WINONA, Minn. (AP) -- The family of a 20-year-old Winona State University student now has a copy of his death certificate, but what killed Derek Charles Henderson remains a mystery.

The Winona Daily News reports that Henderson's body was found about 10 p.m. Feb. 25 sitting upright in a chair.

Winona Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams says the death certificate lists sudden fatal cardiac arrhythmia as the official cause, but what caused the fatal episode is a mystery.

Williams says police ruled out homicide, there were no self-inflicted wounds and no family history of heart trouble.

Although there were several prescription pill bottles near the body, a toxicology report showed Henderson hadn't taken any more pills than what the prescriptions called for.

Henderson's family received his death certificate on Friday.
