Twins open Target Field

MINNEAPOLIS (KTTC-DT)-- For the first time in 28 years, the Minnesota Twins played baseball outside on Monday. Forty thousand fans packed the new stadium to usher in a new era of Twins baseball.

"Is this home? Absolutely this is home, actually this is my first time in an outdoor stadium," said one fan.

There's always a feeling of anticipation and excitement in the air on opening day, but Monday was different.

"I'm proud to be a Minnesotan today," another fan noted.

Even die-hard Red Sox fans had a tough time denying this was a special day.

"Fenway is Fenway, it's got the character and it's Fenway, but this is just beautiful," said a Red Sox fan who made the journey from Boston.

While there's no mistaking the fact that the Twins' past is deeply rooted in the Metrodome, the new stadium pays homage to Twins greats like Puckett, a symbolic remembrance of the past, placed right outside the gates of the present.

"That whole team, Pucket Herbeck, they're all unbelievable," said a die-hard Twins' fan.
