Farmer saves 17 abandoned puppies

ROCHESTER, MN (KTTC DT) -- A farmer is being hailed a hero Friday, for the saving the lives of 17 puppies. Abandoned in a ditch, the dogs will soon be up for a adoption.

Aside from being covered in ticks and burrs, and hungry and thirsty, the puppies will be just fine.

A farmer first noticed them Thursday morning in a ditch near Rock Dell township.

He called Rochester's Paws and Claws Humane Society to report the 10 or so abandoned dogs.

Turns out, there were actually 17 dogs, who are now being cared for by Paws and Claws.

The Humane Society says, there appears to be two litters, ranging in age from eight to 14-weeks.

Tanya Johnson, Paws and Claws Human Society spokesperson says, "They're actually really good puppies, they're a pretty active breed but pretty mellow for puppies I think, really well-mannered."

The Collie, Australian Shepard, Lab mix puppies will soon be checked out by a veterinarian, spayed and neutered before being ready for adoption in the coming weeks.

If you're interested, expect to pay anywhere from $165 to $200.

Paws and Claws also says all proceeds raised from the organization Wine Taster on April 16th will go to pay for vet care for the puppies.  For more information on the Wine Taster and Paws and Claws, click here.
