Roadways still slick

ROCHESTER, MN (KTTC-DT) -- Driving conditions were still slippery at best out there on Thursday evening, after freezing rain left our region coated in ice.

The roads may have looked good, but they were still very slick. A Public Works official said 18 sand trucks were out in full force at 4:30 Thursday morning. By the afternoon there were less trucks out, because as the day warmed up, a lot of ice on the road melted. With lower temperatures, by nighttime it will most likely get icy again.
Even though Public Works is expecting to have more sand trucks on the roadways, drivers are still being told to slow down and drive with care.

Mike Hansen was sanding a parking lot when he said he noticed a lot of cars in ditches. "I've seen a lot of cars flip over. It's got real bad this year."

Hansen also spotted a lot of cars driving around with frozen windshields -- a very dangerous practice, even when the roads are not icy.
