Wabasha County deputy seriously injured in crash

WABSAHA, Minn. (AP) -- A Wabasha County deputy suffered two broken legs when a stolen vehicle collided head-on with his squad car.

Sheriff Rodney Bartsh says a 22-year-old Wabasha man was also seriously injured in the crash just after 7:30 Friday morning.

Bartsh says the suspect was driving a car that had just been reported stolen, and was trying to pass another vehicle when he hit Deputy Andrew Hamman's vehicle.

The deputy, a 30-year-old Rochester man, suffered a broken femur, broken kneecap, broke both ankles and dislocated his hip.

The Wabasha Fire Department had to extricate both men.

Both the deputy and the suspect were taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
