Snowy road conditions

ROCHESTER, MN (KTTC-DT) -- With all the snow threatening travel plans this holiday, Minnesota Department of Transportation reminded drivers to drive slowly.

The snow really started coming down early in the evening on Wednesday, and wouldn't let up. Drivers planning on hitting the road Wednesday through Thursday can expect snow -- and lots of it.

While snow plow crews have been out since before the snow started falling, it's still dangerous to be out. If you have to be on the road, MN DOT recommends staying at least 5 car lengths away from any snow plow to make sure they can see you.

Jessica Wiens, a MN DOT representative, recommends not driving at all. "Please don't be out there unless it's absolutely necessary to be out there. We're asking for no unnecessary travel," said Wiens.

More than 100 snow plows will be out clearing roads across 11 counties in Southeast Minnesota, trying to keep roads as safe as possible right through the holiday until the snow storm is over.
