ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- A Rochester man is facing some serious charges after leading Olmsted County deputies on a chase late Wednesday night... with a baby in the back seat of the car.

27-year-old James Halverson was arrested after he finally pulled over in a relative's driveway.

Halverson's domestic partner says the two were drinking at a friend's house, when Halverson left the home and came back upset.

Police say Halverson went to place their four month-old daughter in the car, but the vicitm didn't want to go with.

Halverson is accused of choking the woman until she lost consciousness and hitting her over the head.

The victim told investigators when she woke up she was in the car.

Halverson's partner says when the car slowed down she jumped out, and he took off with the child.

The woman then called 911.

Police found out the victim's bank card was used in Hayfield, and the vehicle was spotted around 11:30 p.m. on Highway 30 and Highway 63.

When an Olmsted County Deputy tried to pull the car over, a chase began that reached 70 miles per hour.

Halverson finally pulled over on the 100 block of 8th Avenue Southeast.

He faces charges of assault, strangulation and child endangerment.

The baby was not hurt and is back home with the mother.
