New stop and go lights in town

AUSTIN, MN (FOX 47) -- A first for a busy Austin intersection.

Crews are expected to start installing the first-ever traffic signals on Highway 218 North at the westbound entrance and exit ramps of Interstate 90.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says work is set to begin Tuesday.

Officials have had concerns with pedestrians crossing the busy roadway, which divides two commercial areas.

By creating a controlled intersection, pedestrians can cross Highway 218 and 14th Street more safely.
