COPY-Drunk man crashes car into garage

ROCHESTER, MN (KTTC DT) -- A night of drinking lands one man in jail, ruins a car, and leaves a homeowner with a garage in shambles.

Rochester Police say they got a call at 8:13 Saturday night that a car had struck a power box and landed in a garage on the corner of Civic Center Drive and 6th avenue.

There is now a 4-way stop at the intersection since the traffic lights are out.

Police say the driver of the vehicle was a 24-year-old Rochester Male who was taken into custody for a D-U-I.

The landowner says the crash totaled his garage and broke into the foundation of his house.

He says he's just glad no one was home at the time.

Dan Matheson, landowner says, "Normally, there's a vehicle in the garage, and they would have totaled that out too if the vehicle was there. Or they could have hit the gas meter, which is right there close by. Then we really would have had a disaster if people were home."

This is not the first time a vehicle has crashed into this garage.

Matheson says 10 years ago, when his grandmother owned the house, a car hit a telephone pole, which fell on the garage.
