MN waits for H1N1 lab results; WI confirms cases

ST. PAUL, MN (FOX 47) -- The state of Minnesota is playing the waiting game.

The Health Department is still waiting for test results on eight probable cases of the H1N1 flu virus. Officials sent the samples to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lab in Atlanta on Friday.

No new cases were reported Saturday.

A female in the Cold Spring area is Minnesota's only confirmed case.

State health officials expect to have their own lab test for the virus early this week.

Our neighbors to the east are reporting their first confirmed H1N1 cases. Wisconsin health officials say the CDC confirmed three cases Saturday.

Two patients are from Milwaukee County, and the third is from the central part of the state. Milwaukee's Health Commissioner says the strain is mild.

The number of probable cases in Wisconsin has risen to 25.

Meanwhile, CDC Policy Chief Anne Haddix is talking public health in Minneapolis this week. The CDC is coordinating the US response to the H1N1 virus.

Haddix will address whether universal health coverage will improve the nation's health.

The event is Wednesday at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute. It begins at noon, and is free and open to the public.
