Saturday was Merit Badge Day for Boy Scouts

Posted: Updated:

ROCHESTER, MN (FOX 47) -- About 700 Boy Scouts attended the largest Merit Badge Fair in the country on Saturday. And was right here in Rochester.

More than 55 Boy Scout troops gathered at Lourdes High School for the 5th Annual Gamehaven Merit Badge Fair.

The goal? Earn a new badge.

Thanks to nearly 200 volunteers, organizers were able to offer 40 merit badge opportunities.

Including fishing, wood carving, and finger printing.

Alejandro Zeller, a head volunteer, says, "We've got 650 scouts attending for a total of about 1,000 merit badges that will be earned today for individuals."

This Southeast Minnesota event is now the largest in the country.
