DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- A new poll for The Des Moines Register shows 55 percent of Iowans hold an unfavorable opinion of Sarah Palin.
The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee is scheduled to stop in Sioux City next month to promote her memoir.
The poll, published in a copyright story in Monday's newspaper, found 37 percent of Iowans feel favorable about Palin, while 8 percent are unsure.
Among Iowa Republicans, 68 percent view Palin favorably. Strategists say that makes her a credible candidate for the 2012 caucuses should she decide to run for president.
The telephone poll was conducted Nov. 8-11 by Selzer & Co. of 800 Iowans ages 18 and older. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
