35W bridge collapse widow adopts Haitian twins

Updated:

BLAINE, Minn. (AP) -- A woman whose husband was killed during the 2007 freeway bridge collapse in Minneapolis is realizing her dream of starting a family with the arrival of adopted twins from Haiti.

Betsy Sathers welcomed 2-year-old Ross and Alyse to her suburban Minneapolis home just days after the earthquake in Haiti. The 33-year-old new mom says she doesn't feel like she rescued them, but rather that they saved her.

Sathers still wanted to be a mother after the death of her husband, Scott. They had been married 10 months and were planning to start a family. He was among 13 people killed when the Interstate 35W bridge collapsed into the Mississippi River.

Sathers says that after much prayer, she began the paperwork and was matched with the twins last summer.
