ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Participants in a Minnesota program aimed at easing the lives of deployed soldiers and their families are in line for honors.
Counties, cities, companies, churches and colleges were to receive recognition Tuesday for their work on the Minnesota's National Guard's Beyond the Yellow Ribbon campaign.
The campaign is meant to encourage employers and others to provide a network of support for service members and their families. The goal is to do more than hang yellow ribbons when troops are deployed by making special accommodations for soldiers and those they are leaving behind.
A recognition event for entities that have embraced the program was planned for Tuesday afternoon at Century College in White Bear Lake. It was part of a Yellow Ribbon Summit that included presentations and training events.
