ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC-DT) -- Former Austin police captain Curt Rude was sentenced to 200 hours of community service and five years probation Monday afternoon.
Rude was found guilty in November of felony 5th degree controlled substance and gross misdemeanor interference with property in official custody.
Rude was found not guilty of felony theft.
He was accused of stealing prescription drugs from the Austin Police Department's evidence room in 2007.
Judge Kevin Lund cut Rude a break on the felony drug conviction by using a state statue to wipe away a first-time low degree drug offense.
Judge Lund also said Rude has already suffered the consequence of lost trust from Austin Police Chief Paul Philipp, coworkers and the community.
Rude will begin his community service in February, 2010.
