MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Residents in southern Minnesota are being advised to stay home through Wednesday afternoon.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation is advising no travel in the southern part of the state due to extremely poor driving conditions. Winds were expected to increase through Tuesday night, causing blowing and drifting snow, poor visibility and whiteout conditions in many areas.
The Albert Lea area is forecast to get about 14 inches by Wednesday afternoon while Rochester is expected to see 16 inches.
The Minnesota State Patrol reports that from about 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, there were 54 crashes involving injuries statewide, 345 crashes involving property damage, 147 vehicles off the road, and 26 vehicle spinouts. There were no reports of serious injuries.
