MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Jordan Gregor caught touchdown passes of 68 and 42 yards, Reid Roemhildt added a 46-yard touchdown run, and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown beat Moose Lake/Willow River 33-22 in the Class 2A state football championship game Friday.
The Buccaneers asserted themselves on their first possession with a 21-play, 94-yard drive that consumed almost nine minutes. The marathon drive was capped by a 1-yard touchdown run from senior fullback Zach Geyer on fourth down and provided the momentum needed to carry WEM to its second state title. Their last championship title was in 1999.
Trailing 21-0, the Rebels failed to recover an onside kick to open the second half. Two plays later, Roemhildt dashed up the middle for a 46-yard touchdown that put the game out of reach.
Moose Lake added three touchdowns in the final seven minutes in the fourth quarter.
