ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota lawmakers are contemplating whether to insert themselves in a court fight over budget cuts enacted by Gov. Tim Pawlenty.
The House Rules and Legislative Administration Committee discusses Monday whether to file a brief supporting the plaintiffs who are trying to overturn some of Pawlenty's cuts.
It wouldn't be a surprise. The House is led by Democrats who objected strongly to the Republican governor's use of an executive power called unallotment to balance the state budget.
Six Minnesota residents are suing over cuts to state social service programs and a reduction in property tax credits for renters. The case pending in Ramsey County District Court seeks class-action status.
A hearing in the case was set for Monday morning.
