Pawlenty heads to NW Minnesota for deer opener

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. (AP) -- Gov. Tim Pawlenty travels to northwestern Minnesota for the Seventh Annual Governor's Deer Hunting Opener.

Pawlenty will speak at the Big Buck Luncheon in Thief River Falls on Friday. He'll be joined by Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Mark Holsten and Explore Minnesota Director John Edman.

The Governor's Deer Opener is sponsored by the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association in cooperation with Explore Minnesota, the DNR and the community of Thief River Falls.

The DNR predicts nearly 500,000 Minnesotans will venture into the fields and forests for the firearms deer season, which opens Saturday.
