ELKHART, Iowa (AP) -- Authorities say they expect no charges against an Iowa State Patrol trooper who shot and killed a neighbor's dog at his Elkhart home.
Trooper Michael Current says in a report that he felt threatened by the dog, a 3-year-old black Labrador named Gus.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety's Professional Standards Bureau will review Current's actions as they would with any shooting involving a state trooper, but a spokesman for the patrol says initial reports show Current acted in compliance with department policy.
Current used his service weapon to kill Gus, who had somehow escaped from a fenced yard on Friday.
