BEMIDJI, Minn. (AP) -- Bemidji State sophomore goalie Matt Dalton has signed a free-agent contract with the Boston Bruins, giving up his final two years of collegiate eligibility.
Dalton was part of the team that reached the NCAA Frozen Four about a week ago. It was a new experience for the school, and so is seeing a player leave early for the pros.
Still, Bemidji State coach Tom Serratore says it's a good situation for Dalton.
Serratore says he had heard that pro teams liked Dalton, but the coach believes that BSU's tournament run was the determining factor in Dalton's signing.
Dalton's departure leaves Bemidji State with no goalies with college experience. Dan Bakala was a freshman on last year's team, but never suited up.
