Voting ends Sunday for Minnesota license plates

Associated Press - March 21, 2009 12:14 PM ET

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Online voting ends at midnight Sunday for four more outdoor images to be added to the state's critical habitat license plates.

The first two plates showed a pair of deer and a loon on the lake. There are eight contenders for the next four plates: a ladyslipper, a northern Minnesota fishing scene, a white-tailed buck, a pheasant in flight, a black-capped chickadee, a walleye, a pair of loons and a wood duck.

The winners will be announced late next week. Votes can be cast at http://www.mndnr.gov.

Motorists who buy the plates make a minimum $30 per year donation to help buy land for critical habitats or fund nongame research, surveys and education programs.

Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Mark Holsten says more than 100,000 drivers have bought the two existing plates.
