Okay, as most of you know, I LOVE Houseand Bones. Last night was the episode before the season finale for both shows.
It was cool on Bones because Ace Young from American Idolwas on the episode. He was short lived, but hey, he was on the show and that was neat. Then of course they had the climactic ending. The psycho woman, Pam, pulled out a gun and shot at Brennan. Booth was the only one who realized that Pam was shooting, so he stood up and ended up getting shot. That was totally in character. But then Brennan jumps down from the stage (the gang from the Jeffersonian was at an open mic night) picks up Booth's gun and shoots Pam, leaving us, the audience, to believe Pam is now dead. Okay, having the psycho woman shoot...good idea...having Brennan kill psycho woman...totally not good, and was rather unrealistic, even for this show. We'll have to wait til next week to see how the story line plays out.
As for House...the show reminded me of when House got shot, except this time, he wasn't hallucinating the whole thing. It was rather...okay, we've seen this before, move on. I knew something was kooky when Amber first appeared in House's hypnotic dream and then when they pointed out that the lady was wearing a mosquito encased in...amber. But it didn't really hit me until House was starting to put it together that Amber was on the bus with him. But seriously the previews for next week! This weekend my brother was at my house and we were talking about House (he's a new convert to the show). He wanted to know why Wilson was friends with House when House was always such a jerk to him. Next week's episode will probably answer that question and put more in our minds. The question comes up that House wants to know if he's supposed to risk his life to save Amber's. That's not the only thing though. Wilson is believing that House and Amber had an affair??? What's up with that? And I LOVE Wilson and all, but Wilson has had many affairs. That's why he's lost three wives...(okay, okay, wife #3 had the affair, but still...) And I really don't think Amber and House had an affair, although they'd probably be a perfect couple. That just isn't House's way. Oh, well. Next week will tell.
Oh, my, goodness. I hate these two movies. And when I say hate, I mean in a good way. For anyone who wants the movies to be a surprise DON'T READ ANY FURTHER.........................
I watched Stephen King's The Mist, a few weeks ago, and I had to have time to process the movie. It's a world is coming to an end, apocolyptic movie. It's freaky, with huge bats and mosquitoes. It's totally Stephen King, but I underestimated him. And I love Stephen King's warped sense. (Now I've been told the short story ends differently. I have the short story, but haven't been able to bring myself to read it. I'll write more when I've finally read it.) At the end of this movie, the group (the old lady and old man, the young lady and the boy, and the main character) are in an SUV and they end up running out of gas. They were trying to outrun the mist, but just couldn't. They had a gun. The gun only had four bullets. So instead of letting the things in the mist get them. The guy shot the old couple, the lady and his son. Leaving himself to die by the things in the mist. The only thing is that shortly after he shot everyone, the mist starts to clear and military men and a whole bunch of people the group had been with come marching through the mist. He killed everyone, only to find out that if he had waited a few minutes, everyone would have been saved. Stephen King IS WARPED!!!
So now fast forward to last night. I watched I Am Legend. Not quite as warped as The Mist, but just as freaky. The main guy (Will Smith) is the only person alive, or so he believes. Everyone else has warped into these night creatures who kill everyone. All he had was his dog Sam. By the end of the movie, Sam ends up being killed by Will Smith. Will Smith ends up dying (but his death is justified). And it's just as freaky, but not as freaky as The Mist.
Um........Not a lot. I'm looking at tonight's prime listing and morning last year's prime time line up. Last year we had House on Tuesdays. That's moved to Mondays. Tonight FOX 47 has American Idoland Hell's Kitchen. I'll watch Idol at work (one of the benefits of working at a TV station) and I'm taping Hell's Kitchen. KTTC has Most Outrageous Moments...for an hour. Okay if there's nothing else on, but they're going against Idol. After that, KTTC has two hours of Law & Order:SVU. I'm guessing that most reality tv fans aren't going to be Law & Order fans. CBS has Shark and NCIS. I've seen Shark, and it's okay, but not something that's a must see in my book. ABC has Dancing with the Stars for two hours. Smart move for them since that's going to be about the only thing that would draw Idol fans away from FOX 47. Women's Murder Cluband CSI:Miamiare both on, but they're in the 9pm slot, saving them from the battle of reality TV.
For me, I'll watch some of Idol and Hell's Kitchen. Then maybe catch the new SVU.
I know it's sweeps and the shows tend to pull out everything they can to attract viewers, but why on earth did Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage from Mythbusters appear on CSI? I don't watch a lot of CBS shows, but I don't think the guest appearances of Jamie and Adam were advertised? At any rate, it was great for someone who loves both CSI and Mythbusters.
As for last night's shows, House was kind of a disappointment. I was able to guess my way through most of the show. My sister (who heads up the biggest House mailing list out there - Go LAURA!) began to question how good the show was back at the end of the second season, beginning of the third. I liked the show all through that. She's beginning to like the show again. I just LOVE the show, but last night's episode could have been so much better. Is all they could come up with for House trying to mess with Cuddy him eating lunch in the morgue and her calling House "Sweet Sauce"? BORING! Oh, well. I think next week should be the bus crash and amnesiatic House. That should be fun.
Bones was the other show from last night that I watched. The writers have done a great job with making the battle over Bone's father not be the central focus of the show, and having it only be a storyline. Now, her father is free to go find the person who put him in jail. It should be interesting....
American Idol starts in less than a half an hour and I'm looking forward to it. Many may ask why I don't talk more about Idol. Honestly? The people who are currently singing are just too freaking good. I don't have a favorite singer. I don't have a clue as to who I really want to win. Oh, well. I will be off to watch Idol Gives Back. More later!
The original pilot of New Amsterdamheld my attention, but there were things that were just...off...about it. This was back in July. FOX then sent a recut version of the pilot that was pretty close to the one that aired. This one totally held my attention and made me need to watch episode number two. Because now, not only was the guy hot and mysterious, he now had family. It was revealed that he had a kid at the end of the pilot.
You find out in episode number two that the kid is Omar, the guy that owns the bar that John lives in. His kid is a 65 year old black man. I mean...Wow. Now this whole kid thing adds a new dimension to the show, but what's going to happen? Will America like that or will the show go up in flames like so many of FOX's shows have a tendency to do? Only time will tell...
Did anyone get to watch Ghost Huntersseason premiere last night? Talk about scary. Now, I'm personally borderline when it comes to believing in ghosts. Some days I believe, some days I don't, some days I say that if I don't believe they may come and get me. Usually though, I'm okay with it. I even own a season of Ghost Hunters on DVD. But last nights episode was freaky scary. It was scarier than when TAPS went to the Manson house.
They were at Fort Miffen (I think) in Pennsylvania. They actually had several EVPs (electronic voice phenomenon), many personal experiences, and even some stuff on the the thermal imaging. The thermal images always scare me the most. They had a hot spot on a bed. They were so distracted with the hot spot. (It looked like someone was sitting on the bed for a little bit then got up and left.) They didn't even notice that the thermal caught a guy standing, warming himself over a stove in the back of the room. They didn't even notice! Freaky. Oh, well.
Russell Crowe and Christian Bale did a WONDERFUL job with 3:10 to Yuma. Now I have to tell you that I don't watch westerns as a rule. They just aren't my thing. But this movie was great. For those of you who haven't seen it, here's the deal. Russell Crowe plays Ben Wade, a bad guy who gets caught. Christian Bale plays Dan Evans, a small time farmer (who's deep in debt) who finds himself escorting Wade to catch the 3:10 train to Yuma. By the end of the movie, it's just Evans trying to get Wade onto the stinking train. Everyone has abandoned Evans. Wade's gang of outlaws is trying to free him. There's a standoff. It comes down to Evans actually getting Wade on the train. Then Evans is shot in the back by Wade's gang. Wade can't stand this. (I mean come one! Shooting someone in the back!) He grabs Evans gun and shoots and kills his entire gang, then gets back on the train and hands the gun over to the jailer. He does the noble thing.
Now you know the premise. Here's the deal though. This movie is funny. Wade tries to outsmart Evans. Evan tries to outsmart Wade. They are both two extremely smart men. If things were different, the two of them could have been friends. Now here's the deal. According to IMDB, Tom Cruise and Eric Bana were originally cast to play these parts. All I can say is, Good job to the movie producers. Tom Cruise would have made the movie.....too.......Hollywood. Not real enough. These two guys, Crowe and Bale are truly believable old Western cowboys.
Monk...I really don't know what to think about this show. The second part of the season finale was just so.....so poetic and meaningful. I really don't know if this is the end, but what a way to go if it is.
For those of you who don't know, the-----------------------------NEVER MIND!!!!!!!!!! I just read that Monk is returning!!!!!!!!!!! It's on the USA website!!!!!!
Okay, so now we know it's a new beginning! The finale was wonderful. Monk can never truly end until he finds Trudy's killer. Well, he found Trudy's killer and the killer (the six finger man) was promptly killed off. It all has to do with Dale Biederbeck, AKA Dale the Whale. And he really is a whale...so utterly huge and amazingly gross. Well, viewers are led to believe that Dale actually orchestrated Trudy's killing. If I remember correctly, the reason he had her killed was because she uncovered a story about him and was going to print it. (She was a newspaper reporter.) Monk has not been able to uncover evidence of this though. But he, in past episodes, put Dale behind bars for other reasons.
Now, we know that someone nicknamed "The Judge" is behind Trudy's death. My sister thinks The Judge IS Dale the Whale, but I don't think so. I think Dale knows who The Judge is and why Trudy was murdered, but Dale is truly evil.
Monk, in the season finale, overcame so many things. He ended up swimming, being dirty, so many things. Many may say it was out of character for Monk, but there was one line that made it all okay. When Monk met up with Stottlemeyer on the beach, Stottlemeyere said, "Not so bad for someone who can't swim." Monk replied, "I was highly motivated." He overcame some of his fears because he had to. He just HAD to.
The other great part of the season finale was when he saved the governor. Now a quick flash back first. In the series premiere of Monk, the governor actually insisted that Monk be in on the case. Stottlemeyer didn't want him there, but the governor insisted, so started Monk's consulting career. So, come back to last week's episode...Monk's nightmare is coming true. Someone is going to die in a car bomb right in front of him. The captain and Disher were being arrested. Natalie was being restrained. Monk ran out of cover (he was still a wanted man at this time) and ran toward a car he knew had a bomb strapped to it. As he was running, he had a flash back of a nightmare he'd had earlier in the episode of him trying to run toward Trudy and save her from the car bomb, but he never moved, he just ran in place. He had to watch her blow up. But this time, Monk was able to save the governor from the car bomb.
He made progress. It was SO cool. Well...July will start lucky season 7 for Monk. I can't wait!
